Abababy battery-operated plastic mermaid doll (product name “Mermaid Girl”, model +1913-18, barcode 6225010390284) has yellow and green hair, a blue top, a multi-coloured glittering tail and is supplied with a small pink crown, a pink handbag and a blue comb; it is packaged in a plastic bag sealed with a blue cardboard header card. The doll’s arm plastic and the packaging contain excessive amounts of the phthalate DEHP (measured up to 0.16% and 17% by weight), which may cause possible damage to the reproductive system; the product does not comply with the REACH Regulation and has been ordered withdrawn from the market and banned from marketing (compulsory for distributors).

The hazard
