Fortemotus Adult Portable Bed Rails, model USFTMTJAS008, are recalled; they have black tubing, black foam rubber handle grips, support legs, a fabric pouch, measure about 30 by 30 inches, and bear the Fortemotus logo on the fabric cover (model number is on the owner’s manual). They were recalled because users can become entrapped within the rail or between the rail and mattress, posing a risk of serious entrapment and death by asphyxiation; they also fail structural stability and retention strap requirements and have incorrectly sized push pins that can cause lacerations. Owners should immediately stop using them, contact Fortemotus Direct US at fortemotusofficial@outlook.com for a full refund, destroy the rails by cutting the handrails’ foam padding, photograph the destroyed rails and send the photo to fortemotusofficial@outlook.com.

The hazard
The recalled bed rails violate the mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails because users can become entrapped within the bed rail or between the bed rail and the side of the mattress, posing a serious entrapment hazard and risk of death by asphyxiation. The bed rails do not meet structural stability or retention strap requirements, posing a fall hazard. The bed rails' push pins and push pin holes are incorrectly sized, posing a laceration hazard.
