Kids & baby United Kingdom Destruction of the product; Import rejected at border

Pawsitive Cat Toy safety warning

Pawsitive Cat Toy, model 22#orangecat, is a small soft-filled “crocheted” cat figure with plastic eyes holding a plastic card that reads “Pawsitive Cat - I may be a tiny cat, but I believe in you. Go do your thing!” and “You’re Pawsome!”. It was removed because it presents a serious asphyxiation risk from a flexible plastic bag with thickness below the required minimum and a choking risk because the plastic eyes detach, and it does not meet the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011. The import was rejected at the border and destroyed.

How to identify it

PSD notification number: 2604-0066

Notified by: Local Authority Trading Standards

The hazard

The product presents a serious risk of asphyxiation because the flexible plastic bag has an area greater than 100mm x 100mm and the thickness is 0.030 ± 0.002mm. This is less than the minimum 0.038mm specified. If a child placed the bag over their head, they could asphyxiate.

The product also presents a choking risk because the cat eyes detached with minimal force, creating small parts which fit entirely within a small parts cylinder. If a child puts these small parts in their mouth, they could choke. Improvements are also required to product labelling and markings.

The product does not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

What to do

The import has been rejected at the border and destroyed.
