A square transparent plastic bag (product name: Spot cross-border ladies messenger bag storage bag) with leather-like seams and a golden-coloured zipper, sold as a plastic bag and originating from China, is affected. It was removed because the plastic contains excessive cadmium (up to 0.018% by weight) and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP, up to 21% by weight), which can damage kidneys and bones, may cause cancer, and may harm the reproductive system and children's reproductive health; it does not comply with REACH. The item was removed from an online marketplace (voluntary, distributor).

The hazard
The plastic material of the product has an excessive concentration of cadmium and bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) (measured values up to 0.018% and 21% by weight,respectively).
Cadmium is harmful to human health because it accumulates in the body, can damage the kidneys and bones and it may cause cancer.
This phthalate may harm the health by causing possible damage to the reproductive system and may harm the health of children, causing possible damage to their reproductive system.
The product does not comply with the REACH Regulation.
