This recall involves Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap Co. - Shades of Grey Bars of Soap (16 g, 67 g and 135 g sizes).
The hazard
Health Canada’s sampling and evaluation program has determined that the recalled products contain methyl eugenol above the maximum concentration outlined in the Cosmetic Ingredient Hotlist (‘Hotlist’).
Methyl eugenol is prohibited as a pure ingredient on the Hotlist due to its potential for carcinogenicity but is permitted as a naturally occurring component in botanical extracts with specific limits depending on the product type.
As of January 7, 2026, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
What to do
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled products, dispose of them and contact Lake of the Woods Sunrise Soap Co. for a replacement.
