Questions

Where do these exchange rates come from?

The rates come from ExchangeRate-API, and each conversion is checked against the European Central Bank's daily reference rates whenever the ECB publishes both currencies. The source and the time of its last update are shown right under the result.

How often are the rates updated?

ExchangeRate-API publishes new rates once a day. While this page is open it checks for new rates every few minutes, so there's no need to reload it.

What is the mid-market rate?

It's the midpoint between the prices at which banks buy and sell a currency, and the fairest measure of what it's worth. Banks, card issuers and exchange counters add a margin on top, so the amount you actually receive is usually a little lower.

Can I use these rates for a real transaction?

They're for information. Rates move during the day and every provider sets its own, so check the exact rate and fees with your bank or payment service before you send money.

Which currencies are supported?

Over 160 world currencies, including every major one and those of most smaller economies. Cryptocurrencies and precious metals aren't included.

About

Type an amount, pick two currencies, and get the conversion at the latest mid-market rate: the one halfway between the prices banks buy and sell at. It covers over 160 currencies, from the US dollar, euro and pound to the Kenyan shilling and the CFP franc.

Every result says where its rate comes from and when that rate was last updated, and it’s checked against the European Central Bank’s reference rate whenever the ECB publishes both currencies. The page keeps itself up to date while it’s open, so there’s nothing to reload.

How it works

  • Rates come from ExchangeRate-API, which publishes rates for 160+ currencies once a day. If it can’t be reached, the converter falls back to the European Central Bank’s reference rates.
  • Cross-check: the ECB publishes reference rates for about 30 major currencies every working day, around 16:00 CET. When both of your currencies are among them, the ECB rate is shown under the result with the difference between the two.
  • Freshness: the server checks for new rates every few minutes, and an open page asks for them every five, so a tab left open stays current.
  • Popular pairs like USD to EUR and GBP to USD have their own pages, with tables for common amounts.

Notes

Rates are for information. Banks, card issuers and money transfer services add their own margin and fees, so the amount you actually receive will usually be a little lower. Cryptocurrencies and precious metals aren’t included.
