2023–2026 BMW 7 SERIES and 5 SERIES recall: electrical

Affected vehicles are certain 2023–2025 BMW 7 Series and 2024–2026 BMW 5 Series models (also certain 2025–2026 M5 sedans and 2025 M5 touring). The air conditioning wiring harness may have been routed improperly and can be damaged when the cabin air filter is replaced, which can short and create a fire risk. BMW advises not to use remote HVAC or remote engine start and not to leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running until dealers inspect and, if necessary, replace and secure the wiring harness; owners will be notified by mail.

How to identify it

2024–2026 BMW 5 SERIES

The hazard

On certain vehicles, the wiring harness for the air conditioning system may not have been routed properly. As a result, when the cabin air filter is replaced, the wiring could become damaged by contact with the housing cover and cause a short circuit.

Note: This recall also affects certain 2025-2026 model year M5 sedan and 2025 model year M5 touring models.

A short circuit can create the risk of a fire.

What to do

To reduce the safety risk, BMW advises not to use the remote heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) or remote engine start features and not to leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running until the recall repairs have been completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the air conditioning system's electrical wiring harness. The dealer will also ensure that the wiring harness is secured properly.
