2017–2025 BMW K1600GT, K1600 Grand America, K1600B and K1600GTL motorcycles are affected. The reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly, allowing water to enter and corrode the unit, which could short circuit and overheat, potentially causing a fire or causing turn signals and the reverse function to stop working. BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise taking the motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverse gear control unit.

The hazard
On certain motorcycles, the reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the control unit could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the turn signals and reverse function not to work.
A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when the rider intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverse gear control unit.
