2025 BMW R1300 RT and 2025 BMW R 12 GS motorcycles are affected; they can be identified by model and year. A small number may have a cardan (shaft) drive that was not manufactured properly, allowing the connection between the shaft and universal joint to slip and possibly cause a loss of power to the rear wheel, increasing crash risk. BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise taking the motorcycle to a dealership to replace the cardan shaft.
