2012–2018 Ford Focus vehicles are affected; this recall also covers vehicles previously repaired under Ford recall 18S32 (Transport Canada 2018-577) where the repair may not have been done correctly. The canister purge valve (CPV) may stick open, which can deform the fuel tank, cause the fuel gauge to read incorrectly and lead to a sudden loss of power to the wheels, increasing crash risk. Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take the vehicle to a dealer to update the powertrain control module (PCM) software and, if needed, replace the CPV; if replaced the dealer will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary, and owners are advised to keep at least a 1/2 tank of fuel until the repair is done.

A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash.
