2013–2016 Ford FUSION and FOCUS recall: powertrain

Certain 2013–2014 Ford Fusion and 2015–2016 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with a 1.0 L or 1.6 L engine and a manual transmission are affected. Repairs done under a prior recall may not have been completed correctly; repeated clutch slipping can fracture the pressure plate, allowing transmission fluid to leak onto hot components and create a fire or crash risk. Ford will notify owners by mail and ask them to take the vehicle to a dealership to update the system software; for some vehicles the dealer will also inspect and, if needed, replace the clutch assembly.

How to identify it

2013–2014 Ford FUSION

2015–2016 Ford FOCUS

The hazard

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 18S07 (Transport Canada recall no. 2018-129) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.

Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 1.0 L or 1.6 L engine and a manual transmission.

On certain vehicles, repeated clutch slipping could cause the pressure plate to fracture. If this happens, transmission fluid could leak onto hot components in the engine compartment.

Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, an oil leak could create a hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash.

What to do

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the system software to detect and prevent prolonged clutch slip. For certain vehicles, the dealer will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the clutch assembly.
