2019–2020 Ford MUSTANG and EXPEDITION recall: powertrain

2019–2020 Ford Mustang and 2019 Ford Expedition vehicles are affected, including those that previously had recall 20S21 (Transport Canada recall no. 2020-203) repairs that may not have been done correctly. The instrument panel’s chime and message that warn the driver the transmission is not in Park may only sound for 3 seconds/display for a short time instead of the required durations, which could let a driver exit the vehicle while it is not in Park and allow it to roll away. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise taking the vehicle to a dealership to have the instrument panel cluster reprogrammed.

How to identify it

2019–2020 Ford MUSTANG

2019 Ford EXPEDITION

The hazard

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 20S21 (Transport Canada recall no. 2020-203) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.

On certain vehicles, there is a problem with the warnings to tell a driver that the transmission is not in Park. When the ignition is turned off, with the driver door closed, the message and chime to warn that the transmission is not in Park are only active for 3 seconds. Instead, the chime should sound for 10 seconds and the message should display for 30 minutes. As a result, a driver could exit the vehicle without realizing that the transmission is not in Park. If this happens, the vehicle could roll away.

Unintended vehicle movement could increase the risk of injury and/or a crash.

What to do

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to reprogram the instrument panel cluster.
