2021 Ford F-150 light trucks are affected; owners can identify affected vehicles as 2021 model year Ford F-150s and those that received recall 24S38 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-347) repairs. A previous over-the-air software update or an incorrect repair may cause the backup lamps not to illuminate when reversing, increasing the risk of a crash. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise taking the vehicle to a dealership to update the body control module software.
How to identify it
2021 Ford F-150
The hazard
On a small number of vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 24S38 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-347) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.
On certain vehicles, a previous over-the-air (OTA) software update could cause the backup lamps not to turn on when the vehicle is reversing.
Backup lamps that don't work could cause others not to recognize when a vehicle is backing up, and increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the body control module software.
