2017 Ford F-150 recall: lights and instruments

2017 Ford F-150 pickup trucks are affected; you may recognize an affected vehicle if the instrument panel cluster screen does not display when the vehicle is started. The recall was issued because prior recall repairs under recall 17C01 may not have been done correctly and a software problem can cause the display to remain blank, preventing visibility of gear selection, speedometer, warning lights and tell-tales. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise taking the vehicle to a dealership to update the instrument panel cluster software.

How to identify it

2017 Ford F-150

The hazard

On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 17C01 (Transport Canada recall no. 2017-040) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required.

On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the instrument panel cluster screen not to display when the vehicle is started. As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the gear selection, speedometer, warning lights and malfunction tell-tales.

Warnings, gauges, gear selection and tell-tales indicators that don't display could increase the risk of a crash.

What to do

Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the instrument panel cluster software.
