Certain 2025–2026 GMC Sierra HD and Silverado HD 3500 models equipped with a gasoline engine and dual fuel tanks are affected; they can be identified by model year and 3500 HD designation. A software problem may stop fuel transfer from the secondary to the primary tank and can cause the combined fuel gauge to read incorrectly, which could lead to engine stall and increased crash risk. General Motors will notify owners by mail and provide an over‑the‑air engine control module software update, or you can schedule the update at a GM dealership.
How to identify it
2025–2026 GMC SIERRA HD
2025–2026 GMC SILVERADO HD
The hazard
On certain trucks, a software problem could cause the fuel system to stop transferring fuel from the secondary fuel tank to the primary fuel tank. Additionally, the fuel gauge may indicate an incorrect combined fuel level. If this happens, you may not be aware of the low fuel level and the engine could stall.
Note: This recall only affects certain 3500 HD models equipped with a gasoline engine and dual fuel tanks.
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
General Motors will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the engine control module software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a GM dealership.
