The 2026–2027 IC Bus CE school buses (IC BUS) manufactured by International Motors are affected. Certain wheelchair tie-down retractors may not lock automatically, which could allow a wheelchair to move in a crash and increase the risk of injury. International Motors recommends confirming the wheelchair is secured by attempting to move it before driving until recall repairs are completed, and will notify owners by mail to take the bus to a dealership for inspection and possible retractor replacement.
How to identify it
2026–2027 Ic Bus CE SCHOOL BUS
The hazard
On certain school buses, the wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the retractor(s) may not lock automatically. If this happens, the wheelchair may not be secured correctly and could move in a crash.
A wheelchair that moves in a crash could increase the risk of injury.
What to do
To reduce the safety risk, International Motors recommends you confirm the wheelchair is secured properly by attempting to move it before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. International Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheelchair retractor(s).
