2025–2026 Micro Bird G5 school buses are affected; they can be identified by the Micro Bird G5 model and the 2025–2026 model years. The wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly and the retractors may not lock automatically, which could allow a wheelchair to move in a crash. Micro Bird recommends confirming the wheelchair is secured by attempting to move it before driving until repairs are completed, and will notify owners by mail to take the bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the retractors.
How to identify it
2025–2026 Micro Bird G5 SCHOOL BUS
The hazard
On certain school buses, the wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the retractor(s) may not lock automatically. If this happens, the wheelchair may not be secured correctly and could move in a crash.
A wheelchair that moves in a crash could increase the risk of injury.
What to do
To reduce the safety risk, Micro Bird recommends you confirm the wheelchair is secured properly by attempting to move it before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheelchair retractor(s).
