2024–2025 Smeal AERIAL fire trucks (SMEAL) are affected; identified as 2024–2025 Smeal AERIAL models. Certain hydraulic hoses may have been manufactured improperly and could fail and leak oil, potentially causing a fire and causing hydraulic systems such as the aerial platform, ladder and outriggers to not work properly, increasing the risk of injury. Smeal will notify owners by mail and advise taking the fire truck to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the hydraulic hose(s).
How to identify it
2024–2025 Smeal AERIAL
The hazard
On a small number of fire trucks, certain hydraulic hoses may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the hoses could fail and leak oil. Additionally, this could cause hydraulic systems such as the aerial platform, ladder and outriggers not to work properly.
Oil that leaks can create the risk of a fire. Hydraulic systems that don't work properly could increase the risk of injury.
What to do
Smeal will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your fire truck to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the hydraulic hose(s).
