2023–2024 Volkswagen ID.4 recall: high voltage

2023–2024 Volkswagen ID.4 SUVs sold in Canada are affected; look for VOLKSWAGEN ID.4 vehicles from model years 2023–2024. They were recalled because cells inside the high-voltage battery module(s) may have been manufactured improperly, which can allow the battery to overheat and create a fire risk even when the vehicle is parked and turned off. Volkswagen advises setting the maximum charge to 80%, not using level 3 quick charging, parking outdoors away from other vehicles or structures, and will mail owners to have the high-voltage battery module(s) replaced at a dealership.

How to identify it

2023–2024 Volkswagen ID.4

The hazard

On certain vehicles, the cells inside the high-voltage battery module(s) may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the battery could overheat.

A battery that overheats can create a fire risk, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off.

What to do

To reduce the safety risk, Volkswagen advises that you should set the maximum charge setting of your vehicle at 80%, that you shouldn't use level 3 quick charging and that you should park your vehicle outdoors and away from other vehicles or structures until the recall repairs have been completed. Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-voltage battery module(s).
