2023–2024 Volkswagen TIGUAN recall: visual system

2023–2024 Volkswagen TIGUAN SUVs in Canada may have a faulty camera control unit that can cause the rearview camera image not to display after shifting into reverse or after activating the parking assistance function. A missing rearview image can reduce a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up and could increase the risk of a crash. Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise taking the vehicle to a dealership to update the camera control unit software.

How to identify it

2023–2024 Volkswagen TIGUAN

The hazard

On a small number of vehicles, a problem with the camera control unit could cause the rearview camera image not to display after shifting into reverse or after activating the parking assistance function. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse.

A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash.

What to do

Volkswagen will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the camera control unit software.
