How to split a restaurant bill fairly, with tax and tip
Split a bill by what each person ordered, share appetizers evenly, and divide tax and tip in proportion, with a worked example.
Split a bill fairly when people ordered different things, with tax and tip shared out properly.
Splitting a bill evenly is easy. Splitting it fairly, when one person had a salad and another had the steak and two cocktails, is where group chats go to die.
Tab Split takes what each person ordered, adds an even share of anything you all shared, then divides tax and tip in proportion, so nobody pays for anybody else’s dessert.
Each person’s tax and tip is worked out from their own share of the bill. If you round up, the extra cents go into the tip instead of disappearing.
Everything happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
A new toggle rounds each share up and adds the difference to the tip. Handy when everyone is paying cash.
