Convert over 400 units of length, weight, temperature, volume, speed, pressure, energy and more. Or just type a conversion like “5 ft 10 in to cm”.
448 units in 36 categories. Choose one to load it into the converter.
Distances and sizes, from nanometres to light-years, including US survey and East Asian units.
Metric, imperial, troy and traditional weights from Asia, India and Russia.
Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin, plus the historical Rankine, Réaumur, Rømer, Newton and Delisle scales.
Metric, US and imperial liquid measures, cooking measures and traditional Japanese and Russian units.
Land and floor areas, including acres, hectares and regional units like the tsubo, mu, rai and marla.
Speeds for roads, the sea and the sky, and running pace in minutes per kilometre or mile.
From nanoseconds to millennia. Months and years are Gregorian averages.
Bits and bytes, in both decimal (kB, MB, GB) and binary (KiB, MiB, GiB) sizes.
Connection and transfer speeds in bits or bytes per second.
Tyre, weather, blood and engineering pressures: psi, bar, kPa, atmospheres, mmHg and more.
Joules, calories, kilowatt-hours, BTUs and electronvolts, down to the scale of atoms and up to TNT.
Watts, horsepower (mechanical, metric and electric), BTU per hour and tons of refrigeration.
Newtons, pounds-force, kilograms-force, dynes and kips.
Degrees, radians, gradians, arcminutes and the mils used on maps and gun sights.
Hertz, revolutions per minute and angular velocity.
Miles per gallon (US and UK), kilometres per litre and litres per 100 km.
Mass per volume: material densities and mass concentrations like mg/dL and g/L.
Newton metres, pound-feet, inch-pounds and kilogram-force metres.
Volume per unit of time: pumps, pipes, air handling and oil production.
Metres per second squared, g-force and the gal used in geophysics.
Amperes, from nanoamps to kiloamps.
Volts, from microvolts to megavolts.
Ohms, from milliohms to gigaohms.
Farads, down to the picofarads on component markings.
Coulombs and the milliamp-hours printed on batteries.
Tesla and gauss, from MRI scanners to the Earth's field.
Lux and foot-candles, for lighting design and photography.
Becquerels and curies.
Grays and rads: energy absorbed per kilogram.
Sieverts and rem: absorbed dose weighted for its effect on the body.
Pascal-seconds, poise and centipoise.
Stokes, centistokes and square metres per second.
Moles and the number of particles they contain.
Molarity: moles per litre, from molar down to picomolar.
Percentages, per mille, basis points and parts per million, billion or trillion.
Energy per mass: fuel heating values and battery energy density.
A number, a unit and the unit you want, like “5 ft 10 in to cm”, “72 °F in C”, “3 cups to ml” or “60 mph to km/h”. It understands symbols, full names, plurals and British spellings, adds mixed units such as feet and inches together, and accepts fractions like 1 1/2 or ½. Leave out the second unit to see the value in every common unit.
448 units in 36 categories: everyday measures of length, weight, volume, temperature, area, speed and time, technical ones like pressure, energy, torque, viscosity and radiation, and regional units such as the Japanese tsubo, Chinese jin, Indian tola and Russian verst.
They use exact definitions wherever one exists (an inch is exactly 2.54 cm, a pound exactly 0.45359237 kg) and show 10 significant figures. A few units have varied over time or by region; those are marked, and the value in common modern use is the one used.
No. A US gallon is 3.785 litres and a UK (imperial) gallon is 4.546 litres, and pints, quarts and fluid ounces differ in the same way. Both are listed separately, and the plain names mean the US ones.
A kilobyte (kB) is 1000 bytes, as with every other metric prefix. 1024 bytes is a kibibyte (KiB), and the same goes for MB and MiB, GB and GiB. Disk makers use the first; many operating systems show the second, which is why a 1 TB drive shows up as about 931 GB.
Volume and weight measure different things, so the answer depends on what's being measured: a cup of flour weighs far less than a cup of honey. The converter only converts between units of the same kind, and tells you when two units can't be converted.
A converter for every unit you’re likely to meet, and plenty you aren’t: metric and imperial, US and UK, scientific and engineering, and traditional units from Japan, China, India, Thailand and Russia.
Pick a category and two units, or type a conversion the way you’d say it: “72 °F in C”, “3 cups to ml”, “12 st 4 lb to kg”. It understands symbols, names, plurals and British spellings, adds mixed units like feet and inches together, and tells you when two units can’t be converted because they measure different things.
Some units have varied by time and place (the marla, the maund and the cubit among them). Those are marked, and the value in common modern use is the one used. Months and years are Gregorian averages. Converting between volume and weight, such as cups of flour to grams, depends on the ingredient, so the converter doesn’t try.
