The 2026 Blue Bird VISION school bus is affected — on a small number of buses the wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly and may not lock automatically. If a retractor does not lock, a wheelchair may not be secured and could move in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Blue Bird recommends confirming the wheelchair is secured by attempting to move it before driving until recall repairs are completed; Blue Bird will notify owners by mail with inspection and replacement instructions or you may schedule repairs at a Blue Bird dealership.
How to identify it
2026 Blue Bird VISION SCHOOL BUS
The hazard
On a small number of school buses, the wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the retractor(s) may not lock automatically. If this happens, the wheelchair may not be secured correctly and could move in a crash.
A wheelchair that moves in a crash could increase the risk of injury.
What to do
To reduce the safety risk, Blue Bird recommends you confirm the wheelchair is secured properly by attempting to move it before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. Blue Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheelchair retractor(s). Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Blue Bird dealership.
