2026–2027 Thomas Built SAF‑T‑LINER C2 and MINOTOUR DRW school buses (brand THOMAS BUILT) are affected; look for those model-year buses. They were recalled because wheelchair tie‑down retractors may not have been manufactured properly and may not lock automatically, so a wheelchair could move in a crash and increase the risk of injury. Owners should confirm the wheelchair is secured by attempting to move it before driving until repairs are completed; DTNA will notify owners and advise taking the bus to a DTNA authorized service facility to inspect and, if necessary, replace the retractor(s).

The hazard
On certain school buses, the wheelchair tie-down retractors may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the retractor(s) may not lock automatically. If this happens, the wheelchair may not be secured correctly and could move in a crash.
A wheelchair that moves in a crash could increase the risk of injury.
What to do
To reduce the safety risk, Daimler Truck North America (DTNA) recommends you confirm the wheelchair is secured properly by attempting to move it before driving until the recall repairs have been completed. DTNA will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a DTNA authorized service facility to inspect and, if necessary, replace the wheelchair retractor(s).
