The hazard
On certain motorcycles, the pivot bolt on the gear shift lever can loosen during a strong up-shift gear change. If this happens, the bolt could break and the shift lever could fall off, making it impossible to change gears.
An inability to change gears could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
Honda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the shift lever pivot bolt. Dealers will also apply a thread locking compound to the bolt.
