Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling 2023–2026 MCI J4500 and 2023 MCI J4500e buses. A software problem can prevent the tail lamps from turning on when the daytime running lamps (DRLs) are on, causing the buses to fail certain Canadian regulatory requirements and reducing visibility. MCI advises driving the bus with the headlamps on until the software update is completed; MCI will notify owners by mail and will provide instructions or schedule the update at an authorized MCI service centre.
How to identify it
2023–2026 Mci J4500
2023 Mci J4500e
The hazard
On certain buses, a software problem could cause the tail lamps not to turn on when the daytime running lamps (DRLs) are on. As a result, the buses don't meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations.
Driving without tail lamps in low light conditions could make the vehicle less visible and increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
To reduce the safety risk, Motor Coach Industries (MCI) advises you to drive the bus with the headlamps on until the recall repairs are completed. MCI will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to update the vehicle software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at an authorized MCI service center.
