How to print hexagon graph paper
- Choose the hexagon size, measured across the flats.
- Pick flat-top or pointy-top hexagons, and the line colour.
- Download the PDF and print it at 100% so the hexagons keep their size.
What’s on the page
The hexagons are regular, with every side and angle equal, and sized across the flats: 1 inch hexes are 1 inch between opposite sides. Only hexagons that fit completely inside your margins are drawn, and each shared side is drawn once.
Questions
How is hexagon size measured?
Across the flats: the distance between two opposite straight sides. That’s how game maps describe “1 inch hexes”. Each side is that size ÷ 1.732, and the width from corner to corner is 1.155 times the size.
Flat top or pointy top?
Flat-top hexagons line up in columns and pointy-top hexagons in rows. Game maps use either, so pick whichever suits your map, or match one you already have.
What size hexagons suit a tabletop game map?
1 inch hexes fit the common one-inch bases of miniatures. Overland maps often use smaller hexes, such as 1/2 inch, with each one standing for several miles.
How do I print it at the right size?
Choose “Actual size” or 100% in the print dialog, not “Fit to page”, and load the same paper size as the PDF. Then a 1/4 inch square measures exactly 1/4 inch.
Is it free?
Yes. Every paper is free to make, download and print as often as you like, with no account and no watermark.
