Hash Generator

Type text or drop a file to get its MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes at once. Paste a checksum from a download page to confirm your copy matches.

How to use the Hash Generator

  1. Type or paste text, or drop a file onto the box.
  2. Read every hash at once, in hexadecimal (lower or upper case) or Base64.
  3. To verify a download, paste its published checksum into “Compare”; the matching hash is marked.

Private by design

Plenty of online tools send what you paste to their server, which is a real risk with API keys, tokens and customer data. Hash Generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Which hash should I use?

SHA-256 for anything new. MD5 and SHA-1 are fine for spotting accidental corruption, but people can craft two different files with the same MD5 or SHA-1, so don’t rely on them for security.

Can a hash be reversed to get the text back?

No. A hash is a one-way fingerprint. Short or common inputs can be guessed and looked up, though, which is why passwords are stored with slow, salted algorithms like bcrypt or Argon2, not plain SHA.

Why doesn’t my hash match another tool’s?

A hash changes completely if one byte changes. Look for a trailing line break, spaces, or Windows (CRLF) against Unix (LF) line endings. Text is hashed as UTF-8.

Is anything I paste sent to a server?

No. Every tool runs in your browser, so tokens, keys, customer data and code stay on your device. Once the page has loaded, the tools work offline too.

Do I need an account?

No. Every developer tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
