Password Generator

Make a strong password with your device’s cryptographic random number generator. Choose the length and the characters a site allows, and see how many guesses it would take to crack.

Runs on your device. Nothing you paste is uploaded.

How to use the Password Generator

  1. Set the length. 16 characters or more is a good default.
  2. Choose which characters to use, and leave out look-alikes such as l, 1, O and 0 if you’ll type it.
  3. Copy the password, or generate a batch and download them.

Private by design

Plenty of online tools send what you paste to their server, which is a real risk with API keys, tokens and customer data. Password Generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Is it safe to generate a password on a website?

This one is made in your browser with crypto.getRandomValues(), the same generator used for encryption keys, and it isn’t sent, stored or logged. It even works with your network turned off.

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, and 16 or more for important accounts. Length matters more than symbols: each extra character multiplies the number of guesses needed.

What does the strength in bits mean?

It’s how many yes-or-no guesses the password is worth. Each extra bit doubles the work, and 80 bits or more is out of reach of any known attacker guessing offline.

Is anything I paste sent to a server?

No. Every tool runs in your browser, so tokens, keys, customer data and code stay on your device. Once the page has loaded, the tools work offline too.

Do I need an account?

No. Every developer tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
