UUID Generator

Generate random version 4 UUIDs, or version 7 UUIDs that sort by the time they were made, which database indexes prefer. Make up to 1,000 at once, or paste one to see what’s inside it.

Loading UUID Generator…

Runs on your device. Nothing you paste is uploaded.

How to use the UUID Generator

  1. Choose version 4 (random) or version 7 (time-ordered), and how many you need.
  2. Pick the format: lower or upper case, with or without hyphens, or in braces.
  3. Copy them all or download a text file. Paste any UUID into the inspector to read its version.

Private by design

Plenty of online tools send what you paste to their server, which is a real risk with API keys, tokens and customer data. UUID Generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Can two UUIDs ever be the same?

In practice, no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits; you’d need to make about a billion per second for 86 years to have an even chance of one duplicate. They come from your browser’s cryptographic random number generator.

Should I use v4 or v7?

Use v7 for database keys: it starts with a millisecond timestamp, so new rows land at the end of the index instead of scattering across it. Use v4 when an ID shouldn’t reveal when it was made.

Is a GUID the same as a UUID?

Yes. GUID is Microsoft’s name for the same 128-bit identifier, often written in upper case inside braces, which the Format option can produce.

Is anything I paste sent to a server?

No. Every tool runs in your browser, so tokens, keys, customer data and code stay on your device. Once the page has loaded, the tools work offline too.

Do I need an account?

No. Every developer tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
