HTML Entity Encoder

Escape text so it shows up as text in a web page instead of being read as HTML, or decode named and numeric entities like © and € back into the characters they stand for.

Runs on your device. Nothing you paste is uploaded.

How to use the HTML Entity Encoder

  1. Choose Encode or Decode.
  2. Paste the text or HTML. When encoding, choose whether to escape only the special characters or every character outside plain ASCII too.
  3. Copy the result from the lower box.

Private by design

Plenty of online tools send what you paste to their server, which is a real risk with API keys, tokens and customer data. HTML Entity Encoder runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Which characters have to be escaped in HTML?

Inside text, < and & must be; > is escaped as a courtesy. Inside attribute values, the quote character around the value must be as well. The minimal setting escapes & < > " and '.

When should I escape every non-ASCII character?

Only when the page or email can’t be served as UTF-8. Modern pages can contain é, € and emoji directly, which keeps the source readable.

Does decoding run the HTML I paste?

No. Entities are decoded by an inert document that never loads images or runs scripts.

Is anything I paste sent to a server?

No. Every tool runs in your browser, so tokens, keys, customer data and code stay on your device. Once the page has loaded, the tools work offline too.

Do I need an account?

No. Every developer tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
