HTML to Markdown

Paste HTML source, or copy part of a web page, Google Doc or Word document and paste it as it is. You get clean Markdown back, with headings, links, lists, tables and code blocks kept.

Loading HTML to Markdown…

Runs on your device. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded.

How to use the HTML to Markdown

  1. Choose “Formatted text” and paste what you copied from a web page or document, or choose “HTML code” and paste the source or open a .html file.
  2. Pick the Markdown style you like: # or underlined headings, the bullet character, and fenced or indented code.
  3. Check the preview, then copy the Markdown or download it as a .md file.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. HTML to Markdown runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Can I convert a Google Doc to Markdown?

Yes. Select the text in Google Docs, copy it, and paste it into the “Formatted text” box. Headings, bold, italics, links, lists and tables come across; comments and suggestions don’t.

What happens to formatting Markdown can’t express?

Colours, fonts, alignment and layout are dropped, since Markdown has no syntax for them. Underline, superscript, subscript and keyboard keys stay as small pieces of HTML, which GitHub shows correctly.

Does it keep images?

Images keep their web address, so they still show when the Markdown is rendered. Untick “Keep images” to leave them out.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
