Markdown Viewer

Drop in a README, your notes or any .md file and read it the way it’s meant to look, with tables, code and images. Share it as a link that carries the document itself, with nothing uploaded.

How to use the Markdown Viewer

  1. Drop one or more .md files onto the page, or choose them. Each opens in its own tab.
  2. Pick a theme, and use the contents list to jump between sections.
  3. Print it or save it as a PDF, open it in the editor to make changes, or copy a share link.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown Viewer runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

How can a share link work without uploading anything?

The document is compressed and written into the link itself, after the # sign. Browsers never send that part of a link to a website, so the document goes straight from the link to the reader’s screen. Anyone with the link can read it, so share it as carefully as you’d share the file.

Is there a size limit for share links?

Links over about 8,000 characters, roughly 20 pages of text, can be cut off by some chat apps and email programs. For long documents, send the .md file and open it here instead.

Can a shared document run code on my computer?

No. Scripts, forms and event handlers are removed before anything is shown, so a shared document can only show text, links and pictures.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
