Markdown Formatter

Paste messy Markdown and get it back tidy: one list marker, # headings, aligned tables, consistent emphasis and spacing. It’s the formatting Prettier applies, so the result passes a Prettier check.

How to use the Markdown Formatter

  1. Paste your Markdown, or drop a .md file onto the box.
  2. Choose how long lines are handled: kept as written, wrapped at a width, or one line per paragraph.
  3. Tick “Show what changed” to review the edits, then copy or download the formatted Markdown.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown Formatter runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Is this the same as running Prettier?

Yes. It runs Prettier’s own Markdown formatter, so a file formatted here comes out the same as from Prettier in VS Code or a pre-commit hook with default settings.

Will it change my code blocks?

No. Code inside fenced blocks is left exactly as it is; only the Markdown around it is tidied.

Should I wrap long lines?

Keep them as written unless your project wraps prose. One line per paragraph makes changes easiest to review on GitHub; wrapping at 80 columns suits plain-text readers.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
