How to use the Markdown Linter
- Paste your Markdown, or drop a .md file onto the box.
- Pick a rule set (Recommended, Relaxed or Strict), or switch individual rules on and off.
- Click a problem to jump to its line, or select Fix to correct the fixable ones automatically.
Private by design
Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown Linter runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.
Questions
Are these the same rules as the VS Code extension?
Yes. It runs markdownlint, the library behind the markdownlint extension for VS Code and markdownlint-cli, so you get the same rule names (MD001, MD009…) and the same results.
How do I use my project’s settings?
Select “Load a config file” and choose your .markdownlint.json or .markdownlint.jsonc. To take your choices here to a project, download .markdownlint.json and put it in the project’s folder.
Why is line length switched off?
Most Markdown is prose, where one line per paragraph is normal and GitHub wraps it anyway, so the Recommended set leaves out MD013. Strict switches it back on at 80 characters.
Is my text uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.
Do I need an account?
No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
