How to use the Markdown Table Generator

  1. Type into the grid, or paste rows from Excel, Google Sheets, a CSV file or an existing Markdown table.
  2. Add or remove rows and columns, and set each column to left, center or right alignment.
  3. Copy the Markdown or download it. The table can be saved as CSV too.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown Table Generator runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

How do I turn an Excel table into Markdown?

Select the cells in Excel or Google Sheets, copy them, click a cell in the grid and paste. Each value lands in its own cell, and the first row becomes the header.

Why is the Markdown padded with spaces?

So the table lines up as plain text too, which makes a README easier to read and review. Untick “Align columns” for the shortest Markdown; both look the same once rendered.

Can a cell contain a pipe or a line break?

Yes. A | is written as \| so it doesn’t start a new column, and a line break becomes <br>, which GitHub and most renderers show as a new line inside the cell.

Where do these tables work?

GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Reddit, Notion, Obsidian, Discourse and most Markdown editors and static site generators understand this table syntax.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
