Runs on your device. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded.

How to use the Markdown Editor

  1. Start typing, or open a .md file. Paste from a web page, Google Docs or Word and the formatting arrives as Markdown.
  2. Format with the toolbar or the usual shortcuts (Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I, Ctrl+K), and switch between Write, Split and Preview.
  3. Export a .md, .html or PDF file, or copy the result as formatted text for an email or a Google Doc.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown Editor runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Where are my documents saved?

In this browser’s own storage on your device. They aren’t uploaded or synced, so they won’t appear on another computer; download a .md file to move one. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes them.

Which Markdown does it support?

GitHub Flavored Markdown: tables, task lists, strikethrough, autolinks and fenced code with syntax highlighting, plus footnotes, emoji shortcodes like :tada:, ==highlights== and GitHub’s [!NOTE] and [!WARNING] alerts. Raw HTML works too, with scripts removed.

Can I paste from Google Docs or Word?

Yes. Headings, bold, italics, links, lists and tables turn into Markdown as you paste. Press Ctrl+Shift+V (Cmd+Shift+V on a Mac) to paste plain text instead.

How do I make a PDF?

Choose Export, then Print / Save PDF, and pick “Save as PDF” in the print window. For page size, margins, a cover page or a table of contents, open the document in Markdown to PDF.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
