Markdown to BBCode

Write a forum post in Markdown and get BBCode that suits your forum’s software, or turn an old forum post into Markdown. Lists, quotes, code, links, images and tables come across.

Runs on your device. Nothing you type or paste is uploaded.

How to use the Markdown to BBCode

  1. Choose the direction and, for Markdown → BBCode, your forum: phpBB, XenForo, vBulletin or Steam.
  2. Paste your text, or drop a file onto the box.
  3. Copy the result into your forum post, or into your Markdown file.

Private by design

Many online converters send your text to their server, which matters for drafts, notes and anything confidential. Markdown to BBCode runs entirely in your browser: nothing is uploaded, logged or stored on a server, and it keeps working with your network switched off. It’s free, with no account and no limits.

Questions

Why does the forum software matter?

Forums don’t all have the same tags. XenForo has [HEADING] and [ICODE], Steam has [h1] and [table], and phpBB has neither tables nor strikethrough by default, so tables are lined up in a [code] block there. Pick your forum and only tags it understands are used.

Can it read BBCode from any forum?

It reads the common tags from all of them. Sizes, colours and fonts have no Markdown equivalent, so they’re dropped and their text kept, and [quote=name] keeps who’s being quoted.

What happens to task lists and alerts?

Forums have no task boxes, so they become ☐ and ☑. GitHub-style alerts become quotes with a bold title.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser, so drafts, notes and documents stay on your device, and the tools keep working offline once the page has loaded.

Do I need an account?

No. Every Markdown tool is free to use without signing in, with no limits.
